I disagree with those who say our vote doesn't count. Look at the difference between countries that are democracies and those that aren't. For all it's flaws, citizen participation in democracy provides the best government the world has. Democracy can only function and be effective if citizens vote. The WTS wants their members to abstain from voting because they want to run their little dictatorship without interference from followers who think they should have a voice in either the world at large or the Kingdom Hall. When I left the WT, registering to vote was one of the first things I did. I hope you are able to exercise this fundamental right for yourself, no matter who you support.

I wonder if there is a way to register to vote without anybody knowing.
by easyreader1970 inafter i have mentally fallen away from the wbts, i no longer feel that waiting for some sky god to do something is an appropriate response to dissatisfaction.
but since i am still in the organization in body, i can't really do anything openly.
i was in the library yesterday and i was tempted to register to vote but i am not sure if it can be done in a way that my wife could never find out.

How Were "Sisters" Treated In Your Hall?
by minimus inin my hall, there were a number of females who were more qualified to run a hall than were some of the elders.
certain elders expressed their intimidation of these females by picking on them, to correct them, if they possibly could.
as long as a "sister" was "submissive", she was wonderful!

I don't remember being treated badly because I was a woman in any of the halls I was in, however, a couple sisters I knew that had been in other halls had been, and complained to me about it. One even said she had to tell a brother, "You are not my husband, therefore you are not my head!"

The Fine Art of Saying "I'm Sorry".
by BabaYaga inis it almost a lost art?
could you say it while you were a jehovah's witness?
i will tell you this: it took me many, many years of being out of the organization before i could learn how to say "i'm sorry" and truly mean it.

I've been enjoying the various postings on this thread. It seems to me that it takes a certain level of psychological health and confidence in oneself both to be able to admit when you're wrong as well as to stand up for yourself when you are wronged. I think the common denominator is leaving the WT. For me it was only then that I was able to become emotionally healthy enough to be able to relate to others in a positive, truly loving way.

I was shunned and love-bombed yesterday!
by Tired of the Hypocrisy inimagine that!
i was walking downtown in the morning when i crossed paths with one of the sisters from the hall.
as i was walking toward the little cell phone shop she had just walked out of when she looked right at me and whirled on her heel 180 degrees and walked really fast to the bank.

I got quite a chuckle out of your story. Even when I was a Witness I couldn't believe how self righteous and rude some Witnesses could be to those who were inactive. Shunning those who are not DF'd or DA'd is purely a personal choice on the part of JW's who do it. I'm not sure what part of "Christian love" they are not understanding. I guess they must have skipped over the scriptures about not judging others. I am reminded of a Witness couple I used to know who took pride in the fact that they would refuse to see their own family members who were no longer going to meetings regularly. It was less than a year later that I heard that they no longer went to meetings any more either!

Breaking: Mother is going back to the Watchtower
by What-A-Coincidence ineven though she knows it's hypocritical.
she felt 'loved' there.
she misses that.

What kind of support is she looking for? Is there a healthier alternative? Many groups and organizations fill those needs in people's lives without abusing them like the WT does?

Just found out my niece's husband posts here on the ONE AND ONLY JWD
by ThomasCovenant ini am very happy to find out today that my nephew-in-law (?
) has been viewing and posting on this site for a little while.. with all the recent influx of newbies, before the restrictions came into force, i missed him joining.
not that i would have known it was him.. i regret to say that i was unaware that he and my niece had stopped going to meetings for about a year and he had been doing his own research into the 't' before finally seeing the shite.. i now have only my parents and parents-in-law still in and a brother in law and his wife barely hanging on.. my family= .

Just want to introduce myself
by cjones inhi everyone, i have been lurking for a very long time and have been pretty much blown away and sickened by what i have learned on this discussion forum (this is actually the first forum i had ever visted).
i am married to man who was not a jw when i met him (although he was raised as one from his early teens but left when he was in his 20's, oh and that was when he started attending college), to make a long story short we met, fell in love, got married, had a few children and then 20 yrs later he started attending the "meetings" or better yet "the indoctrination sessions" again, which btw he did not tell me that that was what he was doing!!
shortly thereafter i began noticing changes in his personality, and it wasn't for the better.

cjones,
Welcome to the board! I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties in your marriage. I hope this board continues to be helpful to you. Don't give up hope. Your husband left the organization once before, maybe he will do it again.
Evidently,
Sorry to hear about your s-i-l. The story sounds rather shocking. If it became public knowledge in your community (a newspaper story, etc.) that the JW's were rejecting a member because she left her husband for fear of violence against her or her baby, and then threatened to reject her parents as well if they didn't throw her out, I think that would bring some very unwelcome attention to the JW's. Perhaps it would cause them to change their position. Maybe there is more to the story, but when I was in, there was a policy that under extreme cases involving violence, a woman had a right to leave her husband. She just couldn't remarry unless he committed "adultery" first.

Joke from Patterson elders' school
by sir82 inour po recently returned from his indoctrination training session at patterson.. he's been pretty tight-lipped about the experience, following orders from above.
but he did repeat one joke he said one of the instructors made (keep in mind that all those in attendance were pos).. what is the difference between jesus christ and a po?.
jesus knows he isn't god!.

Blondie's right on the attitude behind that "joke". I don't think they are concerned with how the elders treat the average JW. They are more likely concerned with how they interact with headquarters. How pathetic that they call these men back for a training session and make jokes at their expense! After all, the WT doesn't pay these men for any of the many hours of work they devote to the organization. I realize that elders have their problems, and some definitely do "lord it over" others (I've been the victim of it myself), but you would think that the organization that benefits from their free labor would appreciate them enough to treat them with some respect. If you really want to solve a problem you address it directly in training. You don't make derogatory jokes to your volunteers.

SECRET JW LEGAL CASES - PAGE 1 of 4
by sf infor newer posters and lurkers:.
the 140+ miscellaneous jehovah's witness court cases, and related scenarios, posted in this four-page section are intended to provide additional enlightenment on the main legal and/or historical issues that arise elsewhere within this website.
readers will never have heard of most of these cases, primarily because such have never been cited by liberal authors, whose works are intended to glorify the jehovah's witness court cases of the 1920s-1970s.

Thank you for the interesting information. Have you heard of a criminal case involving a circuit overseer? A number of years ago I was told by the daughter of a circuit overseer (who was also an elder's wife) about a circuit overseer who began robbing Circle K stores. He was caught and removed as a circuit overseer. The father of the woman who told me this was sent to that circuit as the new CO. This happened in the late 70's or early 80's in Montana I believe.
